History of a Diamond
Did you know that a diamond is the oldest object you will ever hold? For those lucky enough to be born in April, your birthstone is one of the most miraculous gemstones. The diamond is known for its brilliance, sparkle, fire, and some argue most importantly its hardness.

Diamonds are known for their hardness and are made up of entirely carbon and ranking at a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, diamonds are 58 times harder than anything and can only be cut by another diamond.
Diamonds are formed in extreme conditions far below the Earth’s surface. This process occurs when high pressure and temperature combine to transform carbon atoms into a structure. It can take billions of years for a diamond to fully form before coming to the Earth’s surface. Recently it was discovered that some diamonds found in Canada started forming 3.6 billion years ago.

The 4 C's
Cut is how well it has been shaped and faceted, maximizing sparkle. This determines over 50% of a diamond’s value and determines how large it will face up as well.
Color refers to the shade of diamond you receive, such as one with fluorescents or a warm color.
Clarity is the presence of visible internal inclusions: the fewer inclusions, the higher the value.
Carat weight is the size of the diamond, but it is essential to remember that two diamonds with the same carat weight may have different cut, color, and clarity qualities.
