Many people think white gold is just as good as platinum and often choose it because of its lower price. The color looks basically the same, so what’s the difference?
The biggest difference is that white gold isn’t pure gold. It has other alloys, like silver and nickel, added to it in order to obtain a platinum color. All gold comes of the ground yellow and it is nearly impossible to get rid of the yellowish tint entirely. The yellow color can reflect into the diamond, which can take away from the bright white shine of even the most beautiful diamond.
Platinum, however, is pure white and makes for a more durable and flattering mounting material for your diamonds. Although it is more expensive, it is the best choice to showcase a beautifully cut diamond.
